There was a variety of Ford Mustangs on display, but the two that got the most attention were a blue 1968 Shelby GT500, owned by Joe Gross, and a red 1966 Shelby GT350, owned by Jim Burrow.
Among the favorites of Mustang collectors, these vintage Shelby models are numbered and signed by their creator, automotive legend Carroll Shelby.
Interest in the Shelbys is at a high right now because Ford just brought out a 2007 version with styling highly reminiscent of the 1960s models. The new Shelby Cobra GT500, which sells for about $43,000, comes with a 500-horsepower V-8 engine. Shelby was a consultant on the new GT500, but the vehicle is mostly a creation of Ford’s in-house Special Vehicle Team, and does not carry Shelby’s signature.
The vintage ones, though, are highly in demand and harder to find — and usually more expensive than a new one.
